Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Theatre & Dance News Release MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato's Department of Theatre & Dance will open the Mainstage season with Jonathan Larson's 'Rent,' Sept. 28-30 & Oct. 5-8, 2023. The iconic rock musical that has captivated audiences around the world is returning to Minnesota State University, Mankato. Set in the vibrant and gritty East Village of New York City in the 1990s, 'Rent' follows a group of friends struggling to make it in the face of poverty, homelessness and the specter of HIV/AIDS.
